Cinema Architecture in the 20th Century by Alan Cooper, 14:00 (refreshments) for 14:15 start

Alan will explore the changing architecture of UK cinemas throughout the 20th Century. Beginning with the adaption of Victorian & Edwardian music halls and theatres, through to art deco & atmospheric super cinemas of the thirties, then the post war decline and destruction with partitioning.

The 20C ended with a resurgence, with new massive multiplexes with up to 13 screens whilst other older cinemas have been lovingly restored by community and art-house independents.
