Trip to the Houses of Parliament

Members at the Houses of Parliament

On a Friday in January 50 members left Trowbridge for London and were dropped of near the Houses of Parliament. There were about 2 hours to explore and find somewhere for lunch. Some visited Westminster Abbey others walked along Whitehall to Trafalgar Square and some found a pub for lunch and a drink.

The Group met up at 3pm for entry into the Houses of Parliament. After security we proceeded into the Great Hall where we were met by out Tour guides,. the tour takes in both houses, St.Stephen’s Hall and the central lobby. A recent addition to the entrance of St.Stephen’s Hall is a contemporary first light sculpture which celebrates Women’s Suffrage. The lighting of the New Dawn’s sun shape rises and falls linked to the ebb and flow of the tide of the Thames and was first revealed in June 2016. The guides were very good explaining the history and how Parliament works.

Everyone enjoyed their day, and we arrived back in Trowbridge at 9pm thoroughly exhausted.
