Are you a play reader?

There is possibility we may form a New Play Reading Group.

Sadly, our previous Play Reading Group was forced to close by the Covid lockdown, but our new member Simon has come forward to explore whether there is interest in starting a new play reading Group.

He ran a popular Play Reading Group in Cyprus for 5 years, before returning to the UK. Here’s what Simon
has to say about it.

“Do you love reading? Do you love the theatre? Whether you do or not, you’ll love play reading. It doesn’t matter if you’ve never stepped on stage, or seen a play script, this will be an informal group, with the accent on fun, where we can read both well known plays, and discover new plays and authors. We might laugh, shed a tear or try to work out “whodunnit” before the denouement at the end of the play. We could read a work by Agatha Christie or Alan Bennet, George Bernard Shaw or the master of farce Ray Cooney.

We won’t be analysing the play, but as far as possible, everybody will have a good chance to read, though sometimes the ladies may need to read a man’s part – and vice versa, of course! Who says U3A isn’t keeping up with the current gender fluidity?

If you just want to come along and listen, you’ll be equally welcome. The important thing is to have fun!”
A planning meeting will be held on Thursday 21st March at 10am for those that are interested.
