Exploring Jazz

Our Group enjoys jazz – how about you?
The group meets to hear music of our own past - from the
blues, ragtime, Dixieland to Chicago, New York and Paris,
dancehalls '30s, wartime and later the swing era, big bands
and singers, Hollywood, soloists and small ensembles in a
nostalgia for the tunes and rhythms, the different jazz
sounds created and playing techniques mostly from America.
From California's west coast the “cool” school, modern jazz
and mainstream of the '50s, then Bossa Nova and lastingly
important bebop to jazz-rock-fusion of the '70s, to the
“free” jazz and avant-garde.
Do you listen to music? Do you play music?
Exploring all forms of jazz and enjoying the sounds are the
aims of our group. Members have presented on the 100 years'
history of this music, the changes in styles of the
performers and the movements that have provided constantly
interesting developments of great variety. There is so much
enjoyable jazz to be discovered and savoured with nostalgia!
So, enthusiast or casual listener, or even a little curious,
you might like to give jazz a go.
We meet on the 3rd Friday of the month at St Thomas's Church
Hall in Trowbridge for a 2.15 pm start to Exploring Jazz
programmes. If you are a jazz player, come and delight us.
Be welcome – we are sure you won't be disappointed.
